I was honored and extremely humbled to learn last week that I have been elected vice president of the world’s largest association of professional foresters — the Society of American Foresters (SAF).
I have always said that being a forester is the best job in the world. This is by far the highlight of my career. I look forward to working with my 13,000 fellow SAF members to help people across the country gain a better understanding of our profession, our science, and the invaluable contributions that healthy, growing forests provide in the form of paper and wood products, wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities, carbon sequestration, and clean air and water.
Since starting this blog two months ago, I’ve been encouraged by the interest I’ve seen in forest management on the part of people in the printing, graphic arts and paper industries, as well general readers. If you have a question or comment about sustainable forestry, I’d love to hear from you.
